The work consisted of the demolition of the existing bridge dating from the 1930s and its replacement with a steel arch bridge, combined with the widening of the Albert Canal at this point from 48 metres to 100 metres. The new bridge is 165 metres long and the height of passage for ships complies with the European norm of 9.10 metres, so that inland craft with four layers of containers can pass under with safety.
