The new construction of the Scheepsdaele bridge. The work was carried out by a temporary consortium of Depret nv, Victor Buyck Steel Construction nv and Egemin nv. The coordination of the different disciplines was carried out by Depret. The new bridge is a bascule bridge with three carriageways for vehicles and wide cycle and footpaths on both sides, giving added security to ?weak? road users. The project was intended to reduce waiting times during the opening/closing of the bridge and to increase the navigable width of the canal. During the implementation of the work, a temporary bridge was installed for pedestrians and cyclists.
