The temporary partnership Artes Depret-Artes Woudenberg realizes a new administrative center for the city Zottegem.
The temporary partnership Artes got the assignment to foresee the building of necessary techniques, to expect to the actual norms, and to realize the total interior construction.
Special to this project is that the total concrete construction of the building has been kept. The concrete vaults have no load-bearing function. They were anchored in an steel construction that has taken over the load-bearing function in the new construction. This way technical rooms were created between the old concrete floors and the newly build higher floors. In these technical rooms all the techniques could be hidden. This way the designer optimized the maximum use of the existing offices and meeting rooms.
This building meets with the highest actual energy norms. To meet the building in its’ fullest historical heritage they have been very creative with the diverse construction details. This way they haven’t used the classical wall isolation. By placing a secondary glazing the monument stays fully visible at the inside and they succeed in the fact that the inner climate is not influenced by the outer climate by ventilating separately this “plenum”. We can nominate this as an modern-day execution of the classical cavity wall with isolation principle.
